Taking Time to Really Listen to the Music
What are the songs of today really telling us? There are so many catchy song hooks and everything that are flowing all around the internet and across the sound waves of radios all around the world, but why? What are the messages we are to get out of these songs especially those that are heavily marketed and practically forced upon us? Do you really pay attention and listen to the music that is playing for you? We don't mean do you hear and feel the beat of the song. We want to know if you actually listen to the music as a body of work to know what it is trying to share with you.
Artists are usually singing or performing stories of either their lives or the lives of someone else through song. Therefore, how are we not pay attention to what they are trying to say to us as we sing along and seem to really feel something that we don't actually feel? What are you feeling in a song if you aren't actually getting the real meaning of the song you are hearing? Well, you are feeling your own interpretation and that is fine. We just want you to take note that there is a larger picture when it comes to what the artists are saying when they put out new songs.
We just want to give a few examples from some of the most current songs that have been shoved down our throats. Given the fact that this world already has enough depression and psychos all around, we aren't too sure if we need our popular songs to be right up their alley so to speak.
Here we go.
'Let's make a night you won't remember
I'll be the one you won't forget'
- "Timber" by Pitbull ft Kesha
'I feel the love and I feel it burn
Down this river, every turn
Hope is a four-letter word
Make that money, watch it burn'
- "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic
'I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed
Get along with the voices inside of my head
You're trying to save me, stop holding your breath'
- "The Monster" Eminem Featuring Rihanna
'Mark my words
This love will make you levitate
Like a bird
Like a bird without a cage'
- "Dark Horse" Katy Perry Featuring Juicy J
'And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl'
- "Say Something" A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera
These were just a few of the hit songs that have been pushed at us so that we can take a look at some of the interesting things said in the lyrics of the song. We aren't here trying to necessarily say any of these songs are crazy at all. We just want to make the point of we need to always fully listen to the music so that we know what it is we are liking and know why we actually like it.
